Final Outcomes

This is my final casing, the idea behind the design is that these cases (with USB inside) would be placed on say for example a conference table for people to take away. I am really pleased with the idea, it is such a bold shape and colour that it just has a massive presence. The subject matter is instantly recognizable when you see the case and it serves as a bold introduction to the subject and promotional item.

This is the case with the USB inside. When making the recess I had to be careful not to make it too tight so as not to chip or pull the paint off. You can also see the locators in this photograph that act as the push together fastener.

This is the final, painted USB stick. I feel it is very striking and again the content/subject is unmistakable. I have decided to have a red/white/red colour scheme as it mirrors the colours and positioning of the Canadian flag. I had the red paint mixed to the same colour as the laser-etch piece for the insert. I feel really proud of my design as it looks aesthetically pleasing and functions as a USB stick. The functioning was an import part of my design and to make an aesthetically pleasing product whilst remaining sensitive  to the constraints and limitations that a USB has proved quite a headache. This is why the usb is of typical shape, being quite long and thin. Laptops make up for a large proportion of the computer market and as such it is crucial that the USB will fit, and operate, in a laptop. They generally have a lower 'ground clearance' and tend to be orientated with the long sides top and bottom. Also I have made my design slim, so as it stands a greater chance of fitting into machines alongside and above/below other USB devices. I feel my solution works on both a design/branding/marketing point of view, as well as functional, working device level.
